Rogers has a few special features that make it the right choice for many internet users in all three provinces. For a small monthly fee, you can set up whole-home Wi-Fi coverage for wall-to-wall reliable connectivity in your home. Rogers also allows self-installation of your modem so you can opt to avoid their $49.95 installation fee. Rogers Unlimited Internet Plans

Ignite Internet Gigabit Plan

Rogers offers an incredibly fast unlimited internet plan for $114.99 per month. You’ll be able to enjoy 1Gbps speeds all month long with this unlimited plan. This premium plan is perfect for anyone with significant streaming, uploading, and downloading requirements and don’t mind a higher price tag to get it.

Ignite 150u Plan.

Rogers’ ignite 150 plan provides unlimited internet at 150Mbps speeds for only $79.95 per month. This is the ideal plan for medium-sized families streaming Netflix or playing online games that don’t require the highest connectivity speeds available. This plan works well for households with 8 to 11 devices needing connectivity at once.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Shaw

Shaw is a popular internet provider in BC and Alberta for their cheap prices and plan variety. When you go with Shaw, you’ll also be able to take advantage of bundling discounts for your BlueCurve TV and internet to save money on both essential services. Shaw also has an easy-to-use app that allows you to make payments, monitor usage, set Wi-Fi controls, and limit access from anywhere at any time. With Shaw, you have the option of installing your modem yourself to steer clear of their $50 activation fee. Show also has handy BlueCurve pods that allow for full-house Wi-Fi coverage for an extra fee if this is something you (or your teenagers) need.

Shaw Unlimited Internet Plans

Fibre+ Gig Plan

Shaw’s Fibre+ Gig plan offers speeds of 1Gbps for $125/month with unlimited usage. This premium plan includes a BlueCurve Gateway rental, access to the BlueCurve Home app, and is only $115 for your first 24 months.

Fibre+ 300 Plan

If you’re not in the market for 1Gbps speeds, Shaw’s Fibre+ 300 plan is probably what you’re looking for. For most families, 300Mbps speeds are more than enough and you’ll only pay $100 per month for your first 24 months. The regular rate of this plan is $110 every month.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Telus

Telus operates in Western Canada to deliver both contract and month-to-month internet plans that feature unlimited data and a free Norton 360 security subscription to residents of BC, Quebec, and Alberta. Telus’ Boost network provides whole-home Wi-Fi coverage for an extra fee, but security is free unless you opt for the additional security features. Telus allows you to choose whether you go month-to-month or sign up for a 2-year contract to save money on your monthly bill. Telus also charges $100 to get your modem installed and does not allow self-installation like some other providers on our list.

Telus Unlimited Internet Plans

PureFibre Gigabit Internet Plan

This plan provides download speeds of up to 1.5Gbps and is the fastest Telus plan available. If you choose to go month-to-month with this plan, you’ll pay $155 per month. If you opt for the 2-year contract, you’ll only pay $85 per month for your first 24 months, after which you will pay $155 every month.

PureFibre 300 Plan

Telus offers a more reasonable unlimited internet plan for users who only need 300Mbps speeds. On a 2-year contract, this plan costs $85 per month for your first 24 months, after which you will begin paying the regular rate of $115/month. Month-to-month users start out paying $115 per month but have the option to cancel at any time, unlike contract customers.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Virgin

Virgin operates in Ontario and Quebec and does not charge activation fees when you begin a plan with them. They also do not charge a modem rental fee which is typically included in plan prices from most other internet providers. When you sign up for a Virgin internet plan, you also gain exclusive access to member benefits to CraveTV, Wealthsimple, and Costco, among others. Virgin does not require you to sign up for a contract with any of their plans, so you can proceed month-to-month and cancel anytime without having to worry about cancellation fees or paying out the remainder of your contract. Virgin does not have the same security or bundling features that big-name companies do, but their prices are significantly lower than some others on our list.

Virgin Unlimited Internet Plans

100Mbps Unlimited Plan

Virgin’s more costly unlimited internet plan comes in at $70 per month for 100Mbps speeds. This plan is ideal for those who enjoy streaming shows or movies in HD, or who have multiples children and devices in the home.

25Mbps Unlimited Plan

Though Virgin’s basic plans typically come with a data cap, you can choose to pay $50 per month rather than $45 per month to get unlimited data on their 25Mbps plan. Those on a stricter budget or with minimal speed requirements for their internet habits will get exactly what they need from this affordable unlimited internet plan from Virgin.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Fido

Fido is a popular choice for internet providers in Ontario due to their low prices and no extra fees. Fido does not tack on additional charges for modem rental or activation of your account. They allow self-installation of your modem and will even ship it directly to your house, which is a dream come true for introverts across the province. Fido only operates on a month-to-month basis, so you won’t have to pay any fees or cancel any contracts if you want to change providers or cancel your internet at any time. Fido’s online account and mobile app allow you to track and monitor your internet usage as well as pay your bills from anywhere at any time. Fido is similar to Virgin in that they do not offer any security packages or wall-to-wall coverage options like some of the higher-end internet providers in Canada, but their low prices are well worth the sacrifice.

Fido Unlimited Internet Plans

150Mbps Unlimited Plan

Fido’s fastest plan comes with unlimited data for only $75 per month, or $55 per month if you’re lucky enough to catch a rebate promo. With 150Mbps connectivity speeds, this plan is ideal for smaller households who enjoy streaming and hate loading screens but can’t (or don’t want to) afford premium plans with higher speeds.

30Mbps Unlimited Plan

Fido’s basic plans typically come with data caps, but they offer this 30Mbps plan for $50 per month with unlimited data included. Plus, for a limited time, you’ll get your first month free on this slower plan. For the average individual streaming Netflix or playing games on your devices, this plan is all you need – and with a pretty sweet price tag to boot.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Cogeco

Cogeco offers both a basic unlimited internet plan and a premium internet plan to residents of Ontario and Quebec. When you sign up with Cogeco, you also gain access to a large network of free Cogeco Wi-Fi hotspots. Cogeco also makes an IT support department available to its customers 24/7 and offers exclusive security services as well. If you bundle your Internet with TV or home phone services, you’ll get a rebate on certain internet packages. Cogeco only offers month-to-month services, so there’s no need to sign contracts or fret over cancellation fees if you suddenly need to cancel internet services or change providers. Cogeco also encourages self-installation of your modem to avoid any connection or installation fees.

Cogeco Unlimited Internet Plans

UltraFibre 1Gig Unlimited Plan

Cogeco’s fastest unlimited data plan is only available in certain areas but comes with a reasonable price tag of $90 per month for your first 24 months, after which your payment will increase to $113 per month, which is still a good deal. If you bundle this plan, the price drops down to $83 per month for your first 24 months and $103 per month starting with your 25th month.

UltraFibre 360 Unlimited Plan

If you want reliable speeds with a lower price tag, Cogeco’s 360Mbps plan is for you. For only $85 per month for your first 24 months ($103 regularly), you can stream, game, and surf on multiple devices at once without having to see a single loading screen. If you bundle this plan, you’ll only be charged $78 per month for your first 24 months and $93 per month starting with your 25th month.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from TekSavvy

TekSavvy offers internet plans to customers Canada-wide, unlike most other providers out there. Like Fizz, their plans all include unlimited data as a basic feature. They also don’t use long-term contracts, a growing trend among internet providers, so you can cancel at any time without any extravagant fees. TekSavvy does not charge transfer fees, so if you’re switching from another internet provider to them, you won’t have to pay a $50 activation fee to set up your account. TekSavvy uses a cable network for their plans, so the fastest speed they offer is 150Mbps. TekSavvy does not promote any bundling discounts or promotional offers, but this may be due to their already significantly lower average plan prices.

TekSavvy Unlimited Internet Plans

Cable 150 Unlimited Plan

If you’re in the market for the faster unlimited internet plan offered by TekSavvy, this is the one for you. For only $68 per month, you can stream movies and shows or play games in HD on multiple devices without experiencing lags or glitches.

Cable 60 Unlimited Plan

TekSavvy’s 60Mbps plan costs $55 per month and will keep your multiple devices running smoothly even if used simultaneously for gaming, internet surfing, or social media stalking (no judgement).

Cable 5 Unlimited Plan

For those barely giving their internet a workout every month, this 5Mbps speed plan from TekSavvy is calling your name. You’ll only pay $34 every month for this basic internet plan and is suitable for those who don’t rely on their internet for more than basic usage such as email, social media, and internet surfing.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans from Fizz

Fizz is available in Ontario and Quebec and is an online-only telecom company with some of the lowest prices on the market. Fizz shares some qualities with our other lower-cost providers: they don’t charge modem rental fees, there are no long-term contracts waiting to bog you down in cancellation fees, they don’t have wall-to-wall coverage devices, and you can choose to install your modem yourself to avoid the $30 install fee. A couple unique features with Fizz are that all of their plans include unlimited data (yes, even their most basic plans), and taxes are not included in their advertised prices. You’ll have to calculate those on your own to determine your actual monthly bill. A nice bonus with Fizz is their referral program, with which you can earn $25 for every friend you refer to Fizz internet. As with all other telecom companies, you can use your browser or a mobile app to view and manage your payments, usage, and Wi-Fi controls.

Fizz Unlimited Internet Plans

120Mbps Unlimited Plan

The 120Mbps plan from Fizz is the fastest plan they offer and costs $60 per month. This is the ideal plan for people on a budget who enjoy HD streaming and gaming. If you have a strong aversion to loading screens, you will also find this plan to your liking.

30Mbps Unlimited Plan

For households with kids or heavy usage habits, this $44 plan will do the trick. If you need the speed but are on a very strict budget, this plan will work for you as their next lowest plan is only $9 cheaper but is half as fast.

10Mbps Unlimited Plan

For users looking for the cheapest and most basic unlimited internet plan, Fizz’s 10Mbps plan is the perfect fit. It only costs $30 per month and is at the bottom of the connectivity speed scale but will still let you scroll your social media accounts and browse the internet with no trouble.

Best Unlimited Internet Plans and Service Providers in Canada

There are internet service providers out there that do have strict policies regarding the amount of bandwidth you can use in a month. Be aware that you will be charged extra if you go over your allowed bandwidth limit. Some internet service providers restrict bandwidth at certain hours of the day. For example, they might offer unlimited bandwidth only at night and you might need to keep a close eye on your video streaming and downloads for the rest of the day.

How much data do you really need?

The amount of data you need depends on how much internet you use. If you are a heavy user and need to stay connected to the web for personal, or business internet use, you might consider switching to unlimited data packages. You need to choose an internet service provider you are comfortable with. More importantly, the company should provide the services you’re looking for. Some companies restrict the amount of data included in your package depending on the monthly cost. So if you prefer video streaming and lots of downloading, you need to use an internet plan with high data usage. On the other hand, if you want to use the internet for casual browsing or checking out social media, you can do well with a cheaper internet plan with a lighter bandwidth.

Things to Consider When Choosing an Unlimited Internet Plan

Most internet providers in Canada have several solid options for an unlimited internet plan. There are a number of features to consider when comparing plans and providers, so make sure you account for all these features before making your decision.

Monthly Payment. Depending on which internet provider you go with, you can expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $170 per month for an unlimited service plan. The speed of your internet typically determines the price range of the plans you consider. Though unlimited plans cost more than capped data plans in terms of monthly fees (depending on the provider, anyway), you’ll save money on overage fees in the long run. Most providers will offer a range of unlimited plans that cater to a mix of budgets and speed requirements so that you can still get reliable unlimited internet for a reasonable and affordable price.

Connection Speed. Depending on whether you opt for a provider using a fibre-optic network or a cable or DSL network, their plans will offer speeds between 5-10Mbps and upwards of 1000Mbps. 100-150Mbps is an excellent mid-level range for providers using fibre-optic networks, but they typically cost more than that same range offered by a smaller telecom company. If you have a large household with over a dozen devices needing reliable connectivity, you’ll need the 600 or 1000 Mbps plans.

Length of the Contract. Most providers are trending toward month-to-month contracts, but some still offer, or mandate, annual or 2-year contracts on their unlimited internet plans. In the case of Telus, contracts save you a significant amount of money each month compared to their month-to-month rates, so discounts versus cancellation fees are also something to consider when looking at contract type and length of different providers.

Extra Fees. Some lower-tier internet providers waive all extra fees, but the majority of companies will charge activation fees, installation fees, modem rental fees, and special features such as security and full-home Wi-Fi coverage. Many of these charges will already included in your plan price, but activation fees and extra features are usually extra and need to be considered when choosing a provider.

Special Offers. The time of the year you start comparing internet providers will also determine which internet plan you choose as they often have promos and deals at varying times throughout the year. Many provides will attract new customers by offering free months, monthly rebates on plans, or discounts including on your monthly fees or activation/installation fees. A popular special offer is the inclusion of extra features such as security subscriptions and full-home coverage.
